A little orientation goes a long way. None of this is meant to alarm you — it's just the practical stuff worth knowing so everyone stays comfortable and safe up here on the mountain.
Detectors are installed throughout for your safety — please don't tamper with, disable, or remove them. If an alarm sounds, evacuate immediately and call 911 if needed. If one chirps intermittently (low battery), let us know and we'll take care of it.
Keep stairways clear and well-lit, use the handrails, and supervise little ones. Notice a loose tread or wobbly handrail? Tell us so we can fix it.
Never leave the oven or stovetop unattended while it's on, and assume the surfaces are hot. Keep flammables — paper towels, dishcloths — away from heat, and double-check the controls are off after cooking.
Operate the fireplace only with its timer knob, in season — never try to light it another way or burn real wood. Keep the glass and hearth clear, and remember the glass stays hot even after the flame is off. Supervise children and pets nearby. More in Gas fireplace.
The decks are for soaking up the view — not for climbing. Please don't sit, stand, or lean on the railings or set heavy items on them, and supervise children out there. Spot a loose board or railing? Report it right away.
There's a flashlight provided — please use it rather than candles. Keep exits clear; in the event of smoke, stay low, cover your nose and mouth, and get out quickly. More in Power or internet out?
